Windows 10: Basic Feature Exploration | Features of Windows 10
If you want to adjust the screen resolution, change the wallpaper or even manage the lock
screen, everything can be done via this famous Settings menu. Simply press the [Windows] +
[I] keys to open the screen in question.
To manage the resolution of a screen, for example, click on system and stay on Display: this is
where you can adjust the layout of the screens (if you have several). Scroll down the window
and finally click on Advanced display settings.
How to find a classic environment in Windows 10?
From the Parameters tool, you have the possibility of adding the icons of the Desktop just to
take advantage of an environment that is probably familiar to you. To do this, go to
Personalization, then to Themes. Click Go to desktop icon settings. You then have the means to
restore the Computer, Network, and Control Panel icons, as well as a shortcut leading to your
files.
Open ” This PC” directly from the taskbar.
When you click the Explorer icon from the taskbar, you access frequently used folders, as well
as files you’ve recently opened. But you might prefer to have that same Explorer taskbar icon
open all disks, libraries, and network locations instead (just like Windows XP could with the My
Computer icon).
To do this, nothing could be simpler: open the Explorer and go to the Display function. Click the
Options button. From the General tab, go to the Open File Explorer function. Set it to This PC,
then confirm with the OK button.
Enjoy a Windows inside Windows (Sandbox)
The Sandbox is a totally safe space inside Windows 10. It’s actually a second instance of the
operating system, a “virtual Windows inside Windows.” Concretely, what can it be used for?
Thanks to the Sandbox, you can run any type of program whose origin you doubt without your
“real” system being compromised by a virus. Someone sent you some software, but you
actually think it’s malware? No problem: use the Sandbox. Run it inside it: your PC fears
nothing. Here is how to access this new tool, present since the May 2019 Update of Windows
10.
How to enable Windows 10 Sandbox?
The components needed to run Sandbox are not installed by default. To enable Windows 10
Sandbox, enter the term features in the system search field. In the list of modules that appears
next, simply check the Windows Sandbox function. You can also install Hyper-V components,
still in the same dialog. The implementation of these components is not always necessary. It all
depends on your configuration. Validate. The system will then restart in order to install the
Sandbox.
How to access Windows 10 Sandbox?
That’s it. Your virtual Windows is installed. To launch it, enter the term Sandbox in the search
field of the operating system.
How to reopen a task executed several days ago?
To access this feature, press the [Windows] + [Tab] keys simultaneously or simply click on the
small icon located in the taskbar, just to the right of the search field (next to the small
microphone allowing you to talk to Cortana).
The history of your activity is saved on the Cloud: you can therefore find an application opened
several days ago on another PC and relaunch it on the machine on which you are working.
Unique restriction: you will need to register on your PC using your Microsoft account, the very
one that allows you to authenticate, chat on Skype, consult your OneDrive files, etc.
Increase Windows 10 History Days
By default, the Timeline records your activity for the last four days. It is possible to extend this
period to thirty days. To do this, open the Timeline using the [Windows] + [Tab] keys and scroll
down. There, you should see the Show more days in Timeline feature appear. Click Activate.
How to Disable Windows 10 Timeline
If you consider that Windows 10 should not record your activity, it is quite possible to deactivate
the function in question. Simply click on the Start button, then on the Settings icon. Then select
the Privacy feature and then, using the menu on the left, go to Activity History. Uncheck the
Allow Windows to collect my activities on this PC and Allow Windows to sync my activities on
this PC with the cloud features.
A little further down, you also have the means to make sure that no other user account records
activity in the Timeline. Finally, at the very bottom of the same window, you can permanently
clear the activity history
